Course Details
Structure and Certifications.
Prerequisites
- SEP class rating due for revalidation or renewal
- Valid medical and licence
- Tell us your expiry date and whether you need UK CAA, EASA or both
Revalidation
While your SEP class rating is still valid, UK CAA rules require at least 1 hour flight time with an instructor, including a review of the exercises relevant to the SEP class rating.
- Can be one sortie or two flights whose combined time meets 1 hour
- Instructor assesses proficiency — a separate examiner skills test is not normally required for a standard class rating revalidation
- We can fly a conventional profile or an aerobatics-based sortie if you prefer
Renewal
If your SEP class rating has expired, renewal requirements depend on how long it has lapsed and whether you hold UK CAA or EASA privileges.
- Additional training and a proficiency check with an examiner may be required
- Contact us with your licence and rating dates before booking — we will confirm what you need
Instructor flight & sign-off
Your sortie is a proficiency flight with our instructor, not a structured syllabus course. When you meet the standard, the instructor can recommend revalidation; where an examiner sign-off is required, we have a resident examiner for paperwork (no separate paperwork charge — flying time only).
If you need both UK CAA and EASA revalidation on the same flight, allow for dual-authority requirements when you enquire.
Frequenty Asked Questions
Your questions answered.
Is this a training course?
No — it is proficiency flying to revalidate or renew your SEP class rating. There is no ground school syllabus; you fly with an instructor (and an examiner only if your situation requires it).
Can I combine two flights to make one hour?
Yes. UK rules allow two flights whose time combines to meet the minimum 1 hour with an instructor for revalidation.
Do I need an examiner skills test?
For a straightforward revalidation while the rating is still valid, sign-off is normally by the instructor after the proficiency flight. If your rating has expired or you need an examiner proficiency check, we can arrange our resident examiner — contact us with your details first.
Can I revalidate with aerobatics?
Yes — many pilots prefer an aerobatics profile instead of a standard circuit and general handling sortie. Discuss when you book.
Which aircraft?
We usually fly SEP revalidation on Cessna 152, Grob 115 or similar fleet types. Hourly rate depends on aircraft — contact us for a quote.
